Colleges take on drinking age
The Amethyst Initiative, as it is known, compares current law to the failure of Prohibition, and argues that legalizing alcohol for 18-year-olds would reduce binge drinking, by removing the element of danger that draws young college students; eliminate the practice of falsifying IDs, by which students "make ethical compromises that erode respect for the law"; and promote overall moderation. Changing gears a bit, when my husband and I were dating neither one of us had turned 21 yet. More...

Congress's Return Adds Another Facet to Elections
The Republican White House and Democratic-controlled Congress have been in a standoff over energy and offshore oil drilling all summer. I get a kick out of the news reports in the U.S.The high gas prices are world wide and the U.S. is not the only ones and they do not have the power to solve the problem alone. The news reports would have you think it is only America that has high fuel prices and that they can solve the problem on their own.It will take a Government that is not elitist like the Republicans to work with all the other world leaders to solve the problem and drilling more will never solve the world wide problems of high gas prices. This is where you would NOT want Palin insulting the rest of the worlds leaders with her embarrasing attitude. You have to open your eyes and look outside of the U.S. sometimes to see there is a larger problem then just America. This is why the rest of the world is hoping Obama gets voted in so the rest of the world leaders can sit down and with diplomacy and a clear vision start to plan a long term commitment to solve this problem. There is no way that the U.S. can solve this problem by drilling or pretending that this is not a world wide problem that will take everyones resolve to diplomacy and unity.
